APQvar Dynamic VAR Compensation Systems: 208 - 690 Volts, 50/60Hz

APQvar Dynamic VAR Compensation Systems utilize power electronic technology to achieve ultra fast switching of power factor correction capacitors. Not only is this an automatic power factor system, but it can switch capacitors on-line in less than one cycle so target power factor can be maintained under extreme load conditions. It can respond to the most dynamic of loads including arc furnaces, amusement rides, wind turbines, etc.

APPLICATION - APQvar Dynamic VAR Compensation Systems are commonly used to improve Power Factor when large inductive loads have very dynamic characteristics. It can respond to the most dynamic of loads including arc furnaces, amusement rides, wind turbines, etc. The total bank of capacitors is segmented into convenient increments of kVAR which are switched as needed using zero-cross (soft) switching technology. Commonly used in industrial settings such as steel, car shredding, wind.

  • APQvar Type SMV

Can provide reactive power compensation for inductive equipment that has dynamic load characteristics or needs dynamic VAR compensation. Uses precise zero voltage crossing for transient free switching.

The total bank of capacitors is segmented into convenient increments of kVAR which are switched as needed using zero-cross switching thyristors. Capacitor switching is accomplished rapidly but without transients. Harmonic blocking reactors are included in standard APQvar systems. These reactors will "detune" the capacitors so they do not attract damaging harmonic currents. APQ also offers harmonic filters to remove harmonics from the power system.

APQ's APQvar contoller - Adjustable to your needs

Transient Free—Our standard fast controller provides automatic operation for up to 12 capacitor steps. It continuously samples and calculates reactive power requirements and selects the optimum number of capacitor elements to maintain the pre-selected power factor. This controller is capable of completing the PF calculations and selecting the optimum capacitor banks. The controller features an adjustable setting to allow 100msec to 16msec (sub-cycle) to meet the most demanding dynamic load performance.
